Arrival and Departure A valid passport is required for all U.S. citizens and foreign national entering France. Visitors must have ready for presentation at the border documentary evidence of the purpose of the visit, means of support for the duration of the stay and accommodation arrangements. Travelers from an EU-country which applies to the Schengen agreement do not in reality even show the passport to enter France. However, you could have to authenticated your citizenship and should therefore bring your passport.

Time Difference France applies to the Central European Time Zone which is 1 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+1).

Money The French currency is nowadays Euro. At the moment you get about €81 for $100. Credit Cards like Visa, American Express and Euro card is widely accepted. But there are some exceptions, and there is always a good advice to inquire first. Many stores do not accept AmEx credit card because of the expensive fees.

Tip Usually the tip is included at hotels, restaurants and cafés. People does however leave some extra small money as they got as change. Do you see prix nets or service compris this means that the tip is included in the price. If you on the other hand sees service en ses or service non compris you have to pay additional 12 or 15 percent.

Clothing When you are packing for your vacation there is good to keep in mind that the Frenchmen dresses up when they go the work, visit a restaurant or visit a museum. Jeans and sneakers could perhaps be good when visiting museums, but at many restaurants and shops this clothing is not widely approved.

Personal Safety For being a city with more than 3 millions of inhabitants, Paris is surprisingly safe. In particularly the central of Paris shows very little violent crimes. Robbery and assault happens but are rare in comparison with other capitals in the world. But watch up for pickpockets, especially in the metro at the rush hours.

Voltage 220 Volt

Student Information Students with valid ID-cards get 25-30% discount at theatres, museums, cinemas and many of the monuments. Just buy a ISIC-card (International Student Identification Card) from some travel agency in Paris.
